October 25 - Entering Saskatchewan - 4,300 kms Saskatchewan already! Lori has some comments: " It was hard saying goodbye to relatives in Winnipeg, so I was very happy to be joined by family in Brandon. My big highlight this week has been people coming to walk with me. About ten people have shown up from time to time to walk along with me. Some are MS patients and some are people who are just taking the time to support me. These times are very enjoyable and I have met some wonderful people. Thanks Manitoba!" October 27 - Lori's birthday! She apparently didn't need any help blowing out her candles. It was a tough week for her as she is walking into headwinds of about 90 km/hr! She is just trying to stay on the road! Unfortunately she couldn't make her fundraising and media appointment in Moosimin, which is the first time she was not able to meet with the public since she started six months ago. It was very disappointing for her. The good news is that she is well into Saskatchewan and has hit the 4,500 km mark! Lori sends a "Thank you" to Della, a wonderful SAAN Store employee who treated her to a night at Elkhorn Hotel. It was much appreciated.

October 30 - Extreme cold, 90 km/hr winds, and snow are what Lori is facing every day. That plus her MS symptoms, pain, and difficulty sleeping at night are plaguing her at this point in the Trek. Every morning is a mental battle to get going. She is only able to walk about a half an hour at a time and must rest for longer periods. Many people in large and small ways are showing their support and keeping her going. Fern sent her a dozen red and white roses via her friend Roger. Members of a nursing home in Virden (many of whom have MS, including Della's sister Lois) walked a stretch of the road with Lori. People are coming forward with money to give Lori and Chris hotel accommodations. Drivers, especially truck drivers, are slowing down and pulling to the left to give Lori lots of room and keeping her from getting a face full of snow! This is especially appreciated as the road conditions are worsening. Lori watched in horror as one pickup slid off the road right in front of her, drove out of the ditch, and roared off again. A little too close for comfort! |

November 4 - Moose Jaw - 4,635 km - Winter is in full tilt with temperatures averaging -10C to -20C plus the wind-chill factor, but the cold is not really the problem it's the accumulation of snow. Lori is having difficulty walking in it and Chris is having difficulty driving the motorhome in it. They have lost about one and a half days because of the weather, but safety is a primary concern right now. DJs RV has let Lori and Chris park the motorhome inside overnight to protect it from the elements. Thanks guys! Thanks also to Choice Hotel for extending their sponsorship. The RV has been winterized in Regina by Mike at Quality Tire and is not heated at night so the hotel accomodation is toasty. Lori was able to visit Christian Cornerstone School following a Remembrance Day Assembly and share her story with them. Many of the kids came up afterwards to ask lots of questions and had a prayer circle with her. Also, Adeline Wasley, a woman in her 90s, made a significant donation in memory of her brother who passed away from MS. She had read about the Trek thanks to the Winnepeg Free Press. |

November 10 - Swift Current - 4800 km- It is still difficult with the cold, but at least it is warmer than last week! Some special things happened! The major of Swift Current visited Lori on the side of the road and gave her a donation on behalf of the folks of Swift Current! And Fern and Andy drove all the way from Mission, BC to visit with Lori again! In Lori's words, "They stayed with us for an hour or so and then turned around and headed back to BC. And they say I'm crazy! What amazing friends. Thanks guys, I needed that!" November 15 - Lori was able to drop the puck at a hockey game between Swift Current and Moose Jaw. Apparently the competition is fierce between these long time rivals! |
